About me
Dr. Justis Lopez — aka DJ Faro — is a son, brother, husband, social entrepreneur, educator, sound healer, and chocolate chip cookie lover. He is the founder and Chief Enthusiasm Officer (CEO) of Just Experience LLC, a social impact venture that educates, entertains, and empowers communities through events, workshops, coaching, curriculum, and immersive experiences designed to heal and uplift. He also co-founded Project Happyvism, a movement dedicated to joy and self-love as radical acts of activism.
As DJ Faro, Justis has been moving crowds across the globe for more than 15 years. His sets merge the diasporic frequencies of Afro-Latinidad, Hip-Hop, R&B, Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Reggaeton, Reggae, and Afrobeats into cross-cultural soundscapes that double as both celebration and ceremony. Beyond entertainment, his sound artistry and sound healing elevate vibrational frequencies, reminding audiences that music is medicine — a tool for social change, love, and liberation.
Dr. Lopez holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Harvard University, where his research centered on healing-centered leadership, youth development, and emancipatory inquiry. A former public school social studies teacher, he remains a teacher at heart — bringing soul, scholarship, and systems thinking into every classroom, stage, and strategy session he enters. As a published author and researcher, Justis has written on hip-hop pedagogy, healing-centered leadership, and culturally responsive education, including Happyvism: A Story of Choosing Joy.
As a recipient of numerous awards and fellowships, Justis has been honored nationally and internationally for his impact across education, culture, and social change. Whether teaching, writing, organizing, or DJing, Justis brings a fierce commitment to cultivating radical joy, justice, and transformation. When he isn’t rocking a global stage or facilitating community healing, you can find him hiking, dancing down the street, or savoring funfetti cupcakes and long walks on the beach.
