[Deep Dive] Breath Bars: A Transformational Hip-Hop Meditation and Writing Practice (Part 2)

Thursday October 15, 2026 1:45pm - 3:45pm CDT

Participants will experience a rhythm-based breathing practice good for cultivating mindfulness, settling the nervous system, and resetting equilibrium as well as increasing breath control for speaking, teaching, and presenting. Participants will also create a "Breath Hook" through a simple writing practice consisting of the creation of a two-measure mantra that will help them express one thing they are seeking to let go of and one thing they are seeking to take hold of at this time in their lives. Each Breath Hook will get an affirmative call-and-response from the rest of the participants around the circle. This is a way for participants to “MC” their moment by cultivating Mindful Consciousness in Meaningful Community. This practice is transferable to a personal meditation practice as well as classrooms and learning environments. Participants will help compose a lo-fi hip-hop beat and learn to record each other. Participants will feel empowered to lead students and others in their care in these practices and will leave equipped with links to guided videos and to their beat and song for use in their own spaces.
